Causes of Brown Spots on Face & Skin

Our skin is one our most valuable assets. It protects us from many different things and is a signal of how well our health is. It even plays a large role in defining how beautiful we are. For these reasons alone every person desires to keep their skin young and healthy looking. There are many different things that can happen to hinder this from happening, though. Brown spots on the face and other areas of the skin are unfortunately a common occurrence and a big problem when it comes to keeping yourself looking gorgeous.
There are literally tens of thousands of individuals that develop these dark splotches on their skin every single year. Most people want to learn how to get rid of brown spots to make their skin look beautiful again. Before you delve into treatment options, though, it’s best to learn more about the condition and why it happens. The following information will provide you with the causes of brown spots on the face and skin.

Causes for Spots on the Skin

There are several different causes for the development of brown spots (or dark spots). These include:
  • Sun Damage – The sun can be your skin’s best friend and, at the same time, it’s worst enemy. The sun is one of the biggest reasons that individuals develop skin issues such as brown spots, age spots and other discolorations. When your skin is exposed to high doses of the sun’s rays your melanin count rises rapidly. Melanin is what determines the pigment of your skin and the more that is present, the darker the skin becomes. This is the reason you become tan but it also leads to skin discolorations in many people. Most people who develop spots this way will get them in places like the face, arms, back and shoulders.
  • Hormonal Imbalances – Hormonal imbalances can also cause spots to form on the skin. This is a large reason for women and especially pregnant women. If you use any products that contain estrogen you may be susceptible to this happening while your body adjusts to having more hormones being throw into it. This can be the side effect of drugs or just a natural occurrence.
  • Your Age – Unfortunately, as we become older, so does our skin. And when that happens that are many things that can come up that just happen naturally when you start to get a bit older. This includes wrinkles, loose skin, dark spots, age spots and other skin related conditions. It sucks, but it happens. There are treatments that you can use to improve your skin even at an older age, though. So, don’t fret about it too much!
  • Acne & Scars - If you had acne at any point in your life you probably had a fair number of pimples that popped and left marks on your skin. This is a very common reason for dark spots to form on the skin. Almost everyone experiences acne at some point in their lives and it is very well known that acne can leave behind scars that can last a lifetime. Fortunately there are special treatments to remove acne scars as well, though. They can be easily taken care of in most cases.
These few reasons are the main causes of brown spots on face and skin. You may have noticed that all of these causes are pretty much impossible to avoid for the most part. You could avoid going out in the sun but who wants to do that? And no one has control over their age or hormonal imbalances. Acne isn’t really something you can stop yourself from having, either. You can treat it to get rid of it and make it clear up but that doesn’t mean you’ll stop every single bump from forming that will leave a scar behind on your skin.
